A lovely nymph pursued by Zeus, Taygete was said to have been transformed by Artemis into a doe to elude capture. Later, the deception being unsuccessful, she bore Zeus a son, Lacedaemon, the founder of Sparta.

The shawl bearing Taygete’s name is a study in tranquility. Designed in stripes and lace to go with everything in your closet, the inner triangle is worked side to side, with stitches easily picked up in the yarn-over loops around the shaped triangle, and then knit down in lace. A picot edging is worked around the entire shawl. This version has been updated from the original pattern.
